Geocentricism
In Lindisfarne, adjectives are the most revealing aspects
of our Lord: they are big beautiful
activation codes
between nouns— the immediate Creation and
all of its subsidies— of observing
the retinal veins reflected in the pure lens
of a telescope
for canals on the orbiting face
of Mars.
My brother is jovial in his epicycle;
my other brother saturnine- we walk slow
waltz through the cloisters
in concentric circles, the observed planets rotating
on the crux of us, singing
matins in imitation of stellar deferents. We remain
a sea-mirror of wholly space in our convent:
singular, irrevocable. Today
circumnavigating the coast, wandering lonely
as an exoplanet, I found a god
splayed on the beach, tentacles trans-
- lucent, bent. Their sides torn with black holes as
if deep space had bitten them in-
- to... I pause to
observe
the longship of fingernails
of the north-men in
the distance.
