Earth back to Arcturus
When the lava gets old and retires as stone
When the stone gets weary and sighs into dust
When the the wind wears out its strength to blow
And the water loses its will to flow
And our washed up sun’s too tired to shine
Will your memory still hang in the sky
Among all the graveyard stars?
Your slow death lights my way tonight
We all burn our brightest on our red giant path.
I want to scream “sorry” at the universe
Radiate the word
In an ultrasonic wave
That will travel to the end of spacetime
Sorry...
sorry...
sorry...
Sorry Arcturus, sorry Mars, sorry Horsehead Nebula, sorry quasars
Sorry Centauri system
Sorry we’re made of the same atoms
And this is what I did with them.
You know the galaxy is full of planets
On which no one has ever fallen in love
So there’s no need to feel alone.
You know most matter in the galaxy
Has never been touched
So please don’t feel alone.
But sorry I’m only seeing tonight
The light you sent so long ago.
